TAURAROA

BAND OF HOPE. The annual rally of the combined Tauraroa and Alaungakaramea Band of Hope was held in the Tauraroa Hall on Friday evening. Air Wildo took the chair, and there was a very good attendance, especially of children. The following'officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr Barker; secretary, Mr L. Goodenough; treasurer, Aliss AL Gillingham; vicepresidents, Air Alcock, Air F. Jones and Air H. Gillingham; games masters, Air H. Walker for Maungakaramea and Air 0. Johnson for Tauraroa; W.C.T.U. representatives, Aim Weir and Airs Hanuam senr. The following items were very greatly appreciated: Song, school children; pianoforte solo, Alac Alcock; recitation, Phyllis Milton; mouthorgan solo, Air Good enough; song, Mr Barker; recitation, Alios Doreen Williams; recitation, Pearl Browne; song, Gwen Pardon; duet, Cedric Maepherson and James Johnston; recitation, Gwen Davies; speech by Airs Weir regarding the temperance examination to be conducted shortly; mouth-organ, solo, Air C. Johnson. Air Wilde spoke of Aliss Fegan’s good work and help for the cause since she had come to the district, and thanked her. He expressed regret at her departure and hoped she would have the opportunity to do the same good work in her new district. A hearty vote, of thanks to Aliss Fegan was carried by acclamation. Aliss Fegan’s reply and the benediction closed . a very enjoyable meeting. CARDS. At the weekly card tournament last week, Airs Le Noel and Air A. Alilton Jnr. were the winners. i GENERAL. The attendance at the householders ’ meeting held for the election of the school committee was most disappointing. There were only six present — four members and two householders. A good rainfall has been recorded during the last week or two, and has freshened up the pastures wonderfully. Gardens have benefitted considerably by the moisture.
