STAVISKY SCANDAL
. BETRAYAL BY ACCOMPLICE PAID WITH HIS LIFE. A STARTLING STORY., (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received 1.30 p.ni.) PARIS, March 22. How a former accomplice, M. Galmot, a deputy and a financier, allegedly betrayed Stavisky because ho; passionately loved Madame Stavisky,. later paying for ids betrayal with lus life, T vas revealed in dossiers handed to the commission. \ Tile former Commissioner of Police, M. Pachot, who arrested Stavisky in 1920, says M. Calmot told him that Stavisky was giving a farewell party in his gang before fleeing, and warned him to take a strong force of police,.as the gang'was of a desperate character. M. Pachot wont to the Mariy-le-Roi villa and found the swindler hiding in the bathroom. Ho was obviously astonished and asked: “How did you find me?” adding vindictively; “Where is M. Galmot. Ho must'have betrayed me. I will have the blackguard ’s skin for this.” M. Pachot. adds: “T later asked M. Calmot why he betrayed his leadci, and bo replied: ‘Because I am'disgusted at the idea of those crooks getting held of that woman.’ In 1928, -a few months after Stavisky was released, M. Galmot* died suddenly in Cayelie. His last words Were: ‘I die poisoii’oil by political enemies. ’ ” . Deputy Hcnriot produced a letter allegedly written by, Stavisky/’saying: “M. Galmot will understand that it is dangerous to cross.my path.” Other letters referred to the presence of members of Stavisky V gang at Gayer, cat the time of M. Galmot’s death. . Newspapers declare, that- this shows .that the Stavisky gang was bejjihd' ‘3kf. Prince’s murder, and that they ’■ were frilling to silence any witnesses.-,', - COUNSEL ARRESTED. Gaiilier, formerly Stavisky's and at present Madame Stavisky’s counsel, on charges of swindling, also an assertion by the newspaper. “Le Libertc” that a film of Stavisky’s death not” only showed the body, but scenes. outside the: villa before the defectives entered. “Le Libertc” asks why the .police informed three nows film companies before effecting the arrest. ■ ■
