EXPLOSION FOLLOWS INCIDENT IN FACTORY . 'BUILDING BADI.Y GUTTED (Special to “Northern Advocate.’’) AUCKLAND, This Day. The overfloAying of a drum of liquid Avoed killer, and contact Avitli gas, caused a fire and explosion which badly gutted a corrugated iron and wooden building occupied by the Road Supplies Company, iu the yard of the Mt. Eden railway station, yesterday afternoon. Machinery to the value of £3OOO was extensively damaged. The premises were used as a store for the making of emulsified bitumen and Avecd killer, and at the back aauis a laboratory occupied by Mr M. F. Lamb, chemist. Mr Lamb Avas busy at work when he heard a loud explosion, and, looking into the store, ho saw the place ablaze. He had to make a hurried exit, leaving all his belongings behind. The Mt. Eden brigade Avas quickly on the scene, but, owing to the inflammable nature of the goods in the store, the firemen were unable to extinguish the flames before the building Avas gutted.
