TOWN WHARF CONVENIENCES

PROVISION URGED. NECESSITY FOR YACHTSMEN. BOROUGH COUNCIL’S POSITION. The secretary of the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association rvrote to the Whangarci Borough Council last night in reference to the sanitary conveniences at the Town Wharf, mentioning that at the last meeting of the association attention was drawn to the fact that no proper sanitary conveniences existed handy to the Town Wharf. In view of the large number of craft that moor in the basin, particularly at holiday times, it was considered that conveniences should be provided. The association asked that the council should give the matter immediate attention.

“This letter is what I consider to he a. very cheeky one,” commented 'die Mayor. “As far as I can see, this is not a matter for the borough at all.”

Cr. Morrison said that a meeting between the committees appointed by the borough and the Harbour Board had eventuated, but nothing further had been done till some agreement was come to with the owners of the property concerned where it was proposed to erect the conveniences.

Or. Barclay said that apparently ■the ■ writers • of the letter were under a misapprehension as to whose liability it was. They seemed to think Hint it was the council’s responsibility, but as far as he could see the ••evenue from the visiting boats went ' o the Harbour Board. .He moved that 'he writers of the letter be referred L o the Harbour Board. The Mayor: “Do they get any revenue ? ”

Cr. Holmes: “No.” Cr. Barclay’s motion was not pro eceded with.

The Mayor: “The conveniences will have to be put on the other side of the river, where the boats moor, and I think we have some responsibility there.”

Cr. Holmes moved that the matter be referred to the committee already set up to report back as soon as possible, This was carried.
