WHANGAREI YACHTS SKA r.RCHJN WINS PALMER CUP The weather conditions on the harbour over the week-end were ideal for sailing, and the two yacht races were run oft in a cl in king breeze. The first, starting at 9.1 b a.in., had an entry of five boats —Sea Urchin (R. Lowe), Eclipse (R. Fisher), Sunbeam (S. Hell), Mum (G. Keene) and Whizz Dang (If. Lacey). The Sunbeam was the first away, followed by Whizz, Rang, Sea Urchin, Mum, and Eclipse, [hissing Kissing Point tin 1 order was: Mum, Whizz Hang, Sunbeam, .Eclipse, and Sea Urchin. At Kaiwaka spinnakers were set, and, followed by a good breeze, the boats lay in the following order: Mnrn, Sunbeam, Whizz Bang, Eclipse, Sea Urchin. It was here that R. Lacey’s Whizz Rang had an unfortunate mishap to her rudder and had to pull out. She was towed to On era hi by the Mot in. At Ouerahi a misunderstanding occurred, and the Mnrn and Eclipse pulled into Ouerahi, thinking the end of the course had been reached. The Sunbeam, however, continued round Hie Wellington buoy to win the race. The Palmer Cup race was sailed in a hard breeze over a course of approximately five miles. This was annexed by Alum, with Sea Urchin second and Eclipse third. As a result, R. Lowe, owner of Sea Urchin, takes the Palmer Cup, having won it on points.
