STOP PRESS NEWS

RUGBY FOOTBALL ENGLAND DEFEATS SCOTLAND. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, March .17. An attendance of 70,000 spectators at Twickenham today saw England maintain its unbeaten record in international Rugby this season by defeating Scotland in a close and exciting game by 6 points to 3. Scotland dominated the scrums, but the English backs were faster and safer. England thus won the British Rugby Union championship for the first time since 1928. England was greatly helped by the cleverness of the South African international fullback, Owcn-Smith.
