MYSTERIOUS ’PLANE

MANOEUVRES OVER MANCHUKUO. (Received 9 a.m.) TOKIO, February 24. The Japanese Foreign Office has been advised by the consul at Chientao, East Manchukuo, that a mysterious aeroplane, supposed to be from Vladivostock, was engaged in manoeuvres yesterday. It circled for several hours' over the northern tip of Korea, including the new port of Yuki. A copyright message to the North American Newspaper Alliance from Vladivostok states that the 'Soviet is believed to possess hundreds of thousands of well-equipped troops of all branches, with provisions and munitions for years of warfare strategically distributed along the Soviet-Man-churia frontier. These extended from station 86, opposite Manchuli, on the west, to Grodikov. near Vladivostok, opposite Pogranichuaya, on the east.

In spite of this, however, it is anticipated that any conflict will be mainly aerial. Consequently, the Soviet is developing its air service to a point capable of not only repelling an invasion but of counter-attacking. Powerful bombers would be used able to cross the sea to Japan with several tons of bombs and to terrorise Kobe and Tokio, working havoc in industrial areas.
