SPECTACULAR MARCHING
I - BANDSMEN. COMPETE. ! . ■ST. KILDA WINS. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. By magnificent marching and fine playing, St. Kilda Municipal Band won the A grade Military Display and Quickstep at Athletic Park on Saturday. A total of 22 bands, 11 in each grade, competed during the afternoon, and treated the crowd of 10,000 to 12,000 spectators to a splendid exhibition of precise manI oeuving. The work of some of the A Grade bands was spectacular. St. Kilda gained the highest points both for music and marching, being. 45 points ahead of the next band, Invercargill Civic, which won the contest last year. Invercargill’s marching was quite as good as, if not better than, St. Kilda’s, but this band lost points through setting too fast a pace. The B Grade contest was won by the Wellington Boys’ Institute, which* gained a clear cut win after the Southland Battalion and Westport Municipal.
