WELLINGTON GAS COMPANY

INEQUITABLE TAXATION

DIVIDEND DECLARED

(Per Press Association.—r?ooyrisrht.> WELLINGTON, This Day.

In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet at the annual meeting of the Wellington Gas Company, Sir Harold Beauchamp said the board felt justified in recommending a dividend of 4 per cent for the last half-year, giving a return of 8 per cent for the full year, and permitting the carrying forward of £14,407. Substantial funds had been transferred to certain reserves, all of which made for financial strength. Tho revenue for last year was less than for 1032, lint reductions in expenditure more than compensated for this.

The chairman remarked on the fact of the Government not making provision for the payment of taxation by municipal trading concerns, and expressed the opinion that it was most inequitable that municipalities and power boards should receive such preferential treatment.
