The Now Zealand swimming records went by'the board at the Tepid Baths last evening, when the Auckland senior championships were decided, A very large attendance (many were unable to gain admission) saw Noel Crump, still an intermediate, set new national figures for the hundred and the furlong, and Miss Judith Webster clipped four seconds off her own record for the 220 yards breaststroke, ft was a great night, and the high standard provided suggested that Auckland’s prestige in Dominion swimming is likely to be increased at the Dominion championships at Christchurch in February. The one disappointing feature of the tourney was the paucity of entries in some of the events.

The great time registered by Crump in winning the’men’s 100 yards, free style championship, 51 l-ss, lowered the Dominion record by three-fifths of a second. It was a brilliant swim, and the announcement of the time was greeted with spirited applause. Not content -with his success in the sprint, the North Shore champion later in the evening took one-fifth of a second off R. Frankham’s record of 2.22 1-5 for the furlong. In the 220 yards ladies’ breaststroke championship, Mias J. Webster registered/ the splendid time of 2.23 3-5, this reducing her own Auckland and national record by four clear seconds.

Miss Marie Farquhar, holder of the ladies’ 100 and 220 yards free style, and the 100 yards backstroke championship, did not defend her title. Miss B. Lewin took the 100 yards free style and backstroke, while the 220 yards title went to Miss M. Leydon, .1. Magee easily retained his breaststroke title, while Hasson was again awmrded the low-board diving championship. A. Raper attained the 150 yards men’s backstroke title. Team For Championships.
