The Vienna correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian” says that the Hoimwehr coup d’etat has undoubtedly brought Austria a step nearer to being a Fascist State, though so far the Heimwehr Council has not usurped normal government. It is merely acting as an advisory body, while Hoimwehr excesses, such as maltreating and dosing a Socialist editor with castor oil and occupying the Socialist newspaper offices, have been suppressed.
