The first race in the Sanders Memorial Cup contest was sailed at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon, and was won by the Canterbury defender, Irene. The result was: Irene (Canterbury), 4 hours ISmins 56secs; Lavina (Wellington), 4 hours 20mins. 45secsj Eileen (Otago), 4 hours., 20mins. 48sees; Val (Southland), 4 hours, 22mins. 35sees.
