WOULD BE A GAMBLE
AUSTRALIAN LOAN CONVERSION. . POSTPONEMENT OF EFFORT. . SYDNEY, February 5. The Canberra correspondent of the ‘Sun” says there is no likelihood of Australia making any. attempt this, year to convert the loan redeemable in 1935-45, as suggested by the London “Finanacial News.” It is pointed out that any operation of this character would be in the nature of a gamble, and would mean paying interest on the old loan to 1935 in addition to paying interest between the date of conversion and flhe earliest date of maturity of the 1935 -45 loan. However, an early announcement of the issue of a loan to convert the £17,856,000 • worth of optional stock still remaining at high iPterest rates is expected from London, When tljis is completed, the High Commissioner for Australia, Mr. S. M. Bruce, will return to the Commonwealth via America. ' ; -
