OVERWHELMED
ITALIAN VILLAGES EIGHTEEN LIVES LOST. ROADS AND RAILWAY'S BLOCKED. (United Press Association —By BlocirM Telegraph.-r Copyright.) (Received 9 a.m.) ROME, February 4. Eighteen people were killed, and many others were injured, in the villages of Rubbiano and Bolognola, near Oncona, which were overwhelmed by tremendous avalanches. A solitary skier after an albnlght dash, arrived at Macerata, bearing the news of the disaster. Avalanches also overwhelmed the town of Mogliano. The consequences are not known. Houses in Bolognola were crushed flat, and the roads and railways are blocked. TEN HOUSES BURIED. ALL INHABITANTS. KILLED. (Received 2.30 p.m.) AJACCIO, February :V An avalanche at night -crashed on to ten houses in the mountain village of Ortitorio, killing 39 of the sleeping inhabitants. A snowstorm destroyed the communications, and the authorities despatched skiers for the succour of the survivors.
