MILL ROAD TRAGEDY
CASE AGAINST O. J. BALL. JURY RETURN NO BILL. (Special to •''Northern , Advocate.”) AUCKLAND,, This Day. In his address to tin?. Grand Jury at the Supreme Court this.morning»Mr Justice Herdman said: —
“There is the case of a man named Oswald .Tames Ball, charged with manslaughter, by. negligently driving a motor ear at Whangarei, causing death. It may be that you will decide that this is a case which should not trouble a common ,iury, as it has elements of weakness. Evidence of negligent driving has to be shown. The girl was struck, but it-may be
said that it was a pure accident. There was some evidence of liquor. A constable who arrived on the scene shortly after the accident said he smelled liquor, but states that accused was sober. It appears that it was raining at the time. However, I invito yon to look into the facts and come to ypur own decision.’’ After due deliberation, the .pity returned a “No Bill” verdict.
