OBITUARY
MR S. L. HALL. The death has occurred of \H Stephen Lcetham Hall, aged 50, who for the past 28 years lias been a member of the “Evening Post” front office staff. Mr Hall w r as born in Sydney, and at an early age entered a legal ; office. After serving with the “Daily j Telegraph” and other woll-know r n Sydj r.ey newspapers, Air Hall came to New Zealand in 190(5. Deceased was noted for the prominent part he took in lodge work. He was a member of the T. Masonic Lodge, Kilhirnie, being secretary for a number of years, j secretary of the Melrose Lodge, | U. and Worshipful Master of ) the Royal Orange Lodge, No. 95, bo j •sides being trustee of the Grand Lodge j of Driuds. He also took a keen inter- j est in church work, for many years | being connected with Bt. .Hide’s Anglican Church, Lyall Bay. He is survived by his w’ife, five daughters and two sons. | I MR A. MacNEIL Air J. P. AlacNcil, of Alelbourne, a director of Lithgow' and Company, who is visiting Christchurch, received a cable yesterday informing him that i his father, Air A. ATacNeil, chairman of i the Dominion board of tho company, had been killed in a motor accident. | Air ATaeNeil’s family is w'ell knowm in I Dunedin, where he w r as educated at j Otago Boys’ High School and the Otago University. MR W. A. BRISCOE (Per Press Association. —finnyrieht.) j CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. I The chairman of directors of ATessrs Briscoe and Company, hardware merchants, London, AH W, A. Briscoe, died suddenly from heart failure in Christchurch in his seventyfifth year. He was on his triennial tour of the firm’s colonial branches, and arrived a fortnight ago on his eighteenth visit to New Zealand, AH Briscoe had been chairman of direc- j tors of the long-established company since 1900, and during that time he had toured the world in the firm’s interests. It was calculated that every twelfth day of his life w r as spent at son.
