FOREIGN TRADE

POSITION OF DOMINION. (Special to ‘‘Northern advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. The assertion that New Zealand’s trade with foreign countries is out of balance only by half a million, was made by the president of the Manufacturers’ Association, Mr -T. A. G. Allum, in the course of a statement today. He said the direct exports to foreign countries in 1923 were £2,508,000, and exports to foreign countries, via London £4,119,000, making a total of £6,027,000, or £5,900,000 sterling.' Against this, New Zealand’s imports from foreign countries were £(5,486,000 sterling. New Zealand’s trade with Britain also was seen in a different light‘when allowance was made for exports to foreign countries via London. With this allowance, our reciprocal trade with Britain was about £1,300,000 sterling out of balance.
