AHIPARA

AN INFORMAL DANCE. Mr .1. Berghan’s residence at Ahipara. was the scene of a pleasant little informal dance on Wednesday evening. The guests, to the number of over forty, were, recruited from Kai-| taia and the surrounding district, and a very pleasant time was spent in dancing until the early hours of the morning. Delightful music was supplied by Mrs I. Berghan, Miss Nell Beasley and Mr A. Logan, while the Ritz Orchestra considerably enlivened the function by playing a few extras. The npveliy dances proved very popular and Miss K. Ford and Mr A. Wilson proved the lucky winners of the Monte Carlo waltz. A dainty supper, served by the host, Mr C. Berghan, and the hostess, Miss Z. Berghan, was greatly appreciated by the guests. The host and hostess were assisted in the discharge of their pleasant duties by Misses N. Beasley, Esther Matthew and Vera Matthews. : PORPOISES GALORE. The unusual sight of literally hundreds of porpoises disporting themselves in the surf was seen at Ahipara on Monday afternoon last. Although these denizens of the ocean are fairly common at this time of the year, it is a very rare occurrence to hud such a large number so close inshore. A few more daring-than the rest ventured within a stone’s throw of ‘the rocks, where they played about beneath the gaze of a band of intcr- ! ested spectators.
