THE AUCKLAND TITLES WILSON CONQUERS 'SAVIDAN WELL-RUN MILE At the Auckland athletic championships, held on the Domain on Saturday, A. R. (Ruben) Wilson, the noted Whangarei. miler, in his first tilt at a title distinguished himself by conquering Ihe Olympic runner, .1. W. Savidan, of Auckland, in the one mile championship, Wilson won by six yards in 4.27 2-;5. There were 11 starters. In the 3 miles, won by Savidan, Wilson withdrew with. S laps still to go. 0. R. Morgan, another of the Whangarei Club’s team, won the second heat of the 220 yards hurdles, but was out ofva place in the final. Morgan. was third in the hop, step and jump, and second in the broad jump. Doth Iheso latter events were won by the ox-Whangarei boy, IT. K. Btainsby. In the high jump, N. R. McKay, of Waipu, holder of the title, was unplaced, but he occupied third place in the throwing-the-hammer championship. A detailed resume of the programme of events will appear in tomorrow’s issue.
