HIGH SCHOOL DEBASES
AN ENJOYABLE EVENING. The High School Debating Club held their second meeting last evening. There was a splendid attendance, and many parents and friends were present. The first subject, “That Fashion in Dress is an Evil, ’ ’ was debated by Frances Nicholson (leader), Mary Grove and Verna Wallace (affirmative), and Molly Gallagher (leader), Barbara Walker and Pat Ryder (negative). The girls acquitted themselves very creditably, and the affirmative won a clever debate by a small margin. The second subject, “That Our Mechanical Age has Proved a Failure,’’ was dealt with by the boys. The affirmative was taken by W. Morris (leader), C. Cowan and E. Fairl<^ r , and the negative by P. Worsp (leader), J. Hills and J. Palvey. After a spirited debate, the negative was adjudged the better side. Musical items by the school orchestra included “Madeleine Waltz” (Waldteufel) and 1 ‘The War March .of the Priests ’ ’ (Mendelssohn). A very enjoyable’ evening was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem.
