CAPITAL CHARGE

OHIRO ROAD FATALITY ENGINE DRIVER IN DOCK. REMAND GRANTED. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. George Edward James, aged 57, an engine driver, was charged to-day that on June 30 he murdered Cecilia Smith, who was found dead in a flat in Ohiro Road with a wound in her throat.

On the application of Chief-Detec-tive Carroll, accused was remanded for one week. Mr. W. E. Leicester, who appeared for accused, said the view he had 'so far formed of the case was that it would be of the utmost consequence to the case and the accused that as much time as possible should be left for the preparation of the defence, after the evidence in the Lower Court had been taken. So far accused was not in a fit condition to appear, but there could be no justification in delaying the ease to any appreciable extent. He expressed the hope that the hearing would be taken as soon as possible.
