The- Colonial Secretary, Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister,- in proposing the toast of New Zealand at the Marylebone Cricket Club’s dinner to the English team, referred to J, Lovelock’s marvellous run. He said New Zealand had produced the best farmers in the world, and on the Somme he. had found the New Zealanders the finest fellows in a tight place he had ever seen. The Prime Minister of the Dominion, Mr G. W. Forbes, likened the Economic ' Conference to a cricket team which was “equipped with bats and pads, and somebody got away with the ball.’ ’
