PERJURY CHARGE
MAORI FOR SENTENCE. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) KAITAIA, Wednesday. Before Justices of the Peace, in the Police Court, Walter Tepania, a native, was charged with perjury, and remanded to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence. The charge arose out of a case in the Magistrate’s Court, when Tepania was tried for shooting game without a license. On his first appearance, Tepania produced a license. Although the Magistrate, Mr G. N. Morris, gave Tepania the opportunity to alter his plea, he stuck to his story that he held the right when the Acclimatisation Society’s ranger found him with birds m his possession. At the next court sitting, evidence was given that Tepania obtained his license after being found by the ranger. It was after this that the police’took action, and the present charge was brought against accused.
