ONERAHI NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Personal. After a very pleasant holiday of ten days in Auckland and at Hauraki and Bangiriri, Air do Stigter returned home last week. A very jolly time was spent at the last two places, where he was in turn the guest of his brothers-in-law, ATessrs A. and .1. Carter. Ladies’ Hockey and Dance. Thursday’s match on the Domain between the Onerahi Ladies’ Hockey Club and the Kia Ora Club wag w<-!l worth watching. Play was exciting and strenuous throughout, and there was a large and enthusiastic crowd present, friends of the visiting team being in force. Kia Ora forced the pace and, in spite of the stubborn fight they put up, Onerahi failed to score a point against the superior play of their opponents, victory going to Kia Ora by 5 goals to nil. The dance given at night in the Town Hall by the members of the club was a great .success. Visitors and local pleasure-seekers rolled up well and the floor was comfortably filled when the music struck up. Tasteful decorations added colour and it was a gay picture as the dancers swayed to the rhythm ’neath the lights. Pleasure reigned supreme and dancing went with a swing from start to finis];. Aliss E, Beasley and partner won the competitive statue waltz. A dainty supper was served and enjoyed and the hockyy girls themselves acted as efficient Al’s.C.

Huciire for non-dancers gave amusement on the stage, and a series of interesting games resulted in first prize going to Mr Jones, while Mrs A. ('onnolly won the second award.

Link With Olden Days. Miss D. C. C. de Rtigter will leave shortly for Waipu, where she will be a holiday guest for some months at Waipu Central House. Though born in Java, where her parents were engaged in missionary work for more than 2o years, Miss de Stigter must be regarded as native to Waipu. .She is a grcaT graml-daughter of Neil McGregor, shipbuilder of Nova Scotia, who has become* historic as a leader of early settlement in Waipu. It was in 1852 that the late Mr McGregor built the brig High/ land Lass and, with a company of men and women pioneers, sailed his ship from Nova Scotia down the two Allan tics, around The Horn, and across tin* South Pacific io Waipu, where flo-y carved themselves homes from the wilderness.

League Football Dance. -As a lining celebration ol‘ its victory in the League football seven-a-sble tourney at lliknrangi, in which 7'J ])layers took part and the- palm went to the Onerahi lads, the dance staged on Saturday by the League Football ('lnb was a success socially and financially. There was a good attendance, and not a dull moment marred the fun. Non-dancers found amusement on the stage, where euchre was the order, the series of exciting games ending with ; Mrs 11.I 1 . 17. F. doing winning first prize. Supper was served and enjoyed and it was midnight ’ere the revel ended.
