FIRST-AID COMPETITIONS

The St. Jolin AmbnTaucKhcld ifs annual Easter first-aid 'competitions on the Domain on Saturday afternoon. Teams from as far south as Dunedin and Wellington, as well as numerous country teams from various parts ,of the North Island, took part in competitions, and their work was stated by Colonel George Barclay, Chief Commissioner for New Zealand, to be of a particularly high standard. The number of competitors was about 250. | Ambulance officers present, were: Colonel George Barclay, Commissioner for New Zealand; Mr C. J. Tnnks, District Commissioner; Mr A. W. Provert, District Superintendent; Mr W. Hitchin, District Officer; and Dr. S. H. Ward, District Officer, Whangarei. ) The Judges of the various competi--tions were; Dr. Garfield. Stewart, Dr. Will, Dr. Hughes, Dr. S. H. Ward, Dr. Horton, Dr. Neil Houghton and Dr. Gladys Montgomery. The Cadet Bailey Cup was adjudged by the district officers.

The Whangarei Cup is for generar efficiency. Lots are drawn for the positions in the team. Hence it is possible for a first year member to be the leader. The cup was presented to the Auckland centre by the Whangarei Y.M.C.A. brigade four years ago, 1 for' competition throughout New Zealand, and this is the first occasion oh whipb , the trophy has been brought back to.' its home town.
The Intercolonial Challenege Ciip ; J.s, the blue ribbon for ambiilahc'e wdrk'for Australia and New, Zealand. It, was won six years ago by Whangarei. The competition includes individual tests, triangular and roller bandaging,, and also team stretcher work.
The fine performances of the .Whangarei team is all the more meritorious as two members have Ijacl only one year’s experience. .
