AUCKLAND, This Day.

The star performer of the two qualifying rounds' of the Auckland provincial golf championship, which' was played at Middlemorc on Saturday, was the Auckland Club player, R. D. Wright. Returning the best card of the day, 74, in the afternoon, he tied with one of his club mates, H. Menzies, for the best gross score in the two rounds, 155. Playing off over eight holes, Wright was two strokes worse than Menzies • at the thiid, where Menzies got his third successive four. However, Menzies got in the bunker at the next and took 7, followed by a six at the fifth hole, and Wright took the honours. A holder of the championship on the four previous occasions, /Wright also won the trophy for the best net medal score, his tally being 147. Only four players broke 80 in the morning, when there was a baffling wind, but in the afternoon when conditions were better the scores improved •

accordingly, but on the whole the scoring was only average. Among the players from outside the province to qualify were two fsbm Wanganui, B. M, Silk and V. Howarth, while Buckley hails from Whangarei. A lad of 16, in J. H. Young, of Titirangi, was also in the first 30. The Qualifiers. The following qualified for the championship:—R, D.
