The effect of yesterday's judgment of the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Hewart, which would make the totalisator illegal at greyhound races, continues to excite public interest. Totalisators were in use at several meetings last night.
Tlio position of tlm totalisator clubs is the subject of consideration, but it is generally assumed that they will be closed.
No police action is likely, however, ponding instructions from the Heme Secretary. Law officers are stated t/i have the whole matter under consideration.
Editorial comment mostly welcomes the judgment as bringing to a head the unhealthy situation in which new betting facilities were increasing under doubtful legal authority.
