LOST HIS LICENSE

INTOXICATED MOTORIST. HAD JUST BOUGHT CAE. ALSO FINED £lO. The broaching of a bottle of beer to celebrate the purchase of a ear by James Douglas Eevell, had a sequel in the Whangarei Police Court this morning, when the new owner was charged with being intoxicated in charge of the ear in Bank Street eaidy on Sunday morning. Eevell lost his license for a year and in addition was fined £lO and costs.

Mr. Harrison appeared for Revell and pleaded guilty on his behalf. Senior-Sergeant Powell said that at 12.35 yesterday morning, accused was driving his car down Bank Street. Revell went to turn into Water Street, and collided with a car driven by a Mr. Howie, who was proceeding . up Bank Street. The collision occurred at the corner of Water Street.

Revell, continued Mr. Powell, smelt of liquor and was arrested. He was released yesterday.

“This is a technical plea of guilt 3% only,” said counsel. “ Revell had been to a party.” Counsel continued that on Saturday evening, Revell completed a deal for the ear which he was driving, and ho and the salesman had a bottle of beer apiece. After that accused went to a cabaret and stayed there until the last dance and did not consume any more liquor.

Counsel said that although Revell was actually not drunk, technically he was, for he smelt of liquor. When examined at .1 a.m., accused was pronounced sober by a doctor. “Counsel seems to think that the fact that accused had just bought his car is a mitigation of the offence,” said' Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M. “Personally, I think it is an aggravation. Revell is going to lose his license, and he will.be convicted and fined £lO and coats.” Revell was allowed time in which to pay.
