ACCIDENT AT TOPUNT.

WJien the early goods train was travelling through Topuni early on Saturday morning, it was stopped by a platelayer, who told of a car which had toppled from the overhead bridge on to the railway line.

Evidently the steering gear gave way,' and the car crashed into the railing of the bridge, to fall down the

steep embankment on to the lino. Among those in the cur was Mr T.. N. Tremcwan, an engineer employed by the Whangarei Dairy Company. One of the three lady passengers was injured, and received medical attention on the roadside.

The .car, the hood of which was considerably damaged, was pulled into a clear position by a rope attached to the railway engine. The party was able to drive away with the ear under its own power.
