A strike has been declared by (5000 men at Madras and the southern Maliratta railway workshops in Parembur, with signs that it will spread to other centres of the same railway, and it is possible that other services Avill become involved. The Railwayman’s Federation for several months has been threatening a general strike, demanding a cessation of discharges under the retrenchment scheme.
