(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, October 30,
The Belfast correspondent of the “Daily Express” states that three chemists at' Belfast gas works have perfected the discovery of creosote oil as a substitute for petrol, which, they believe, will ultimately halve Britain’s motor fuel bill.
Belfast gas works are producing tlio fuel at the rate of 300,000 gallons n year, and it is being eagerly snapped up at fid a gallon. A local bus coni-' pany has converted its fleet to its use, effecting a saving of a penny a mile, and 100 private cars here are using it. In London several provincial and city bus companies are experimenting with .the oil, which is already being produced at Manchester. The formula lias been broadcast throughout the Empire. A representative of the Commonwealth Government who studied the methods here, has recommended the encouragement of its production all over Australia.
