SEVERE SENTENCES,

FOUR RECEIVE LIFE TERM,

(Received 9 a.m.) TOKIO, October 29,

Sentences were imposed on Communists in the Tokio District Court today as follows; —Four ringleaders, imprisonment for life; six, ten. to fiften years’ imprisonment; and 87 others from two to nine years’ imprison- * ment.

The Procurator demanded the death penalty for the leaders. Manabu Cano, the most distinguished of the prisoners, announced his intention of appealing. He denounced the police for their exploitation of a recent bank robbery as Communists’ work.
