UNPOPULAR VENTURE

DE VALERA NEWSPAPER VIOLENT OPPOSITION. PUBLICATION SUSPENDED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright.) (Received 9 a.m.) DUBLIN, October 27. People who were seen reading the de Valera organ, the “Evening Telegraph, ’ ’ were assaulted in the • streets of Dublin today. Delivery vans • were attacked and newsboys threw bundles of papers into the River Liffey and tore hundreds to pieces. There were many fierce encounters.

The directors of the newspaper, which first appeared on June 3, state that it was destroyed overnight through the ill-advised action of those who-should have been most solicitous for its welfare —the Irish Workers’ Union.

The publication of the “Evening Telegraph” has been suspended, the directors expressing sympathy with the 118 employees thrown out of work as a result.
