WHEAT WITHHELD
FARMERS WANT FAIR PRICE. DECISION IN ALBERTA. (Received noon.) CALGARY, September 15. Dissatisfied with the price of wheat, the Alberta farmers are holding their products off the market and selling only when money is required to pay debts. This was announced by the Air berta Wheat Pool on Thursday, and it was declared by the pool that the move is not in the nature of a strike, but was started- by .the farmers in an effort, to obtain what they consider a fair price. At present they receive on an average 32 cents a bushel for No. 1 Northern. It is unknown at what figure the farmers .would start marketing all their wheat, blit they refuse to sell until they can obtain a price that will cover the cost of production arid' ensure a fair profit. The Alberta wheat crop this year is expected to be around 160,000,000 bushels. The farmers will hot be able to hold any great amount because of insufficient storage facilities. There is a general movement over the whole province, however, to use all the possible storage space. Winnipeg grain men express no, surprise at the action of the Alberta farmers. The opinion was voiced that the farmers of Manitoba . and Saskatchewan are virtually' following suit. The view is supported by the lightened “hedging” pressure cm the grain exchange for the past two days.
