NO MEETING
NORTHLAND TROTTING CLUB. t , WANTED TO INCLUDE GALLOPS. l PERMISSION -REFUSED. The Northland Trotting Club will not hold its usual meeting at Whangarei on May 21. This is consequent on the permission they sought to hold two galloping events at the meeting, being refused by the New Zealand Racing Conference, ■ When the question of the meeting was discussed by the executive recently, it was decided to seek permission to include two galloping races on the programme. The Board of the New Zealand Trotting Clubs’ Association granted permission, subject to the approval of the New Zealand Racing Conference. Word has now been received that the latter body does not approve of gallops being included on a trotting programme and has thus refused permission. •
The decision, 'said the secretary, jVFr A, F. Thomson, was hard to understand, especially as it" had been " intended that the two races should be for local horses. With those two races included, the . club could probably have conducted a successful meeting, which, owing to the state of the Jinances, was essential. The embargo -was also strange because several racing clubs had trotting events on their programmes and neither controlling body took exception to that. The president stated that the Whangarei Facing Club had. afforded the Trotting Club every assistance by notifying the New Zealand Facing Conference that they offered no objection whatever to the application of the Northland Trotting Club to include two galloping events in its trotting programme being granted.
