Mr A. E. Brown, who has been in Auckland for the past five months, has returned to Whangarei. General E. J. Higgins, head of the Salvation Army, who has been touring New Zealand, arrived in Auckland from Hamilton this afternoon. He will leave by the Aorangi on Monday for Sydney.

The Rev. J. Ewcn Simpson, minister of the Baptist Church, Tauranga, for tire past four years, has received a unanimous call to the pastorate of Colombo Street Baptist Church, Christchurch. A T csterday the - AVhangarei County Council accepted with regret Iho resignation of Air AV. IT. Gillespie, who has been its inspector since January, 1013. The chairman said that over the longr period Air Gillespie had served faithfully and well, and all regretted his retirement owing to ill-health. Cr. J. H. Hayw’ard said that the Inspector had been a good servant, conscientious and courteous in the discharge of his duties.
