They were found in a car which had been driven from Wellington. As a result, Charles Thomas Batkin was sentenced to six months’ gaol with hard labour, Clarence Frank Ross to four months’ hard labour, and James McArley whs admitted to probation for two years. They had all pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of house-breaking implements. Another charge related to obtaining credit from hotelkeepers at Hawera, Wanganui and New Plymouth.
