CENTRAL PARK SEWER
WORK TO BE DONE. COST OP £4OO. A recommendation that a sewer be laid to serve the Central Park area was brought forward by the Works Committee at the Borough Council meeting last night. The estimated cost was £4OO, and the committee advised that, owing to the nature of the ground, nothing be done until thei dry weather sets in.
Cr. Tibbits said that by putting ,in a larger pipe sufficient fall for sewering the area was possible.
Cr, Finch suggested that a pipeline be put in from the cesspool to a point below the swimming pool to carry away the overflow, but it was pointed out: that the Health Department would not sanction any such move. The engineer said that overflowing only occurred on rare occasions during the winter months, and never during the swimming season. This led Cr. Finch to move that the recommendation be deleted from the • report. As there was no urgency, the work could be provided for in next year’s estimates. It was explained by Cr. Tibbits that the money was already available as part of‘ the loan raised for sewerage, and upon this the amendment was withdrawn and the report adopted. Cr. Pickmere remarked that although he walked through the park twice daily, he had never noticed anything objectionable. He thought that a system of electrical sewerage would be necessary for this area.
