NEWSPAPERS HELD UP
STRIKE OF MECHANICAL STAFF,
(Received 9 a.m.) PERTH, August 13
A strike by newspaper employees today prevented the production of the city's afternoon newspaper, “The Perth Daily News.” The morning newspaper, “The. Western Australian,” is unlikely to appear tomorrow. The dispute involves the proprietors of both Journals and their mechanical staff. It arises out of reduction in pay, following on the heavy drop in advertising, and the high cost of newsprint owing to the adverse exchange.
