ALBERTA DISTURBANCES

MILITIA REQUISITIONED. ARREST OF COUNCILLORS. (Received 9 a.m.) OTTAWA, June 13. A message from Drumheller, Alberta, says that all the members of the Town Council were arrested on a complaint by unemployed men that they had failed to provide for the unemployed, as provided by the legal code of Canada. The law stipulates that it shall be the duty of civil bodies to make suitable provision for the poor and destitute. Folllowing the alleged threat by the unemployed at Edmonton, who are said to be under Communists’ influence, to seize the Civic Building and loot the stores, the Premier of Alberta, Mr J. E. Brownlee, called for the militia. A detachment of the Stratheona Horses was rushed by a special train f rom • Calgary and held in the barracks. At Calgary a score of unemployed men invaded the restaurants and refused to pay after securing meals. They were arrestel, and a mob stormed the police headquarters in attempting to release them. It was dispersed by repeated charges by the police.
