FREE RATION OF MEAT
GOVERNMENT’S FORESIGHT. TIMELY PURCHASE OF MUTTON. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. Some time ago the Government purchased about 20,500 carcases of mutton at prices considerably below those ruling today and as a result a. ration of meat is being added to the orders issued this week by the Auckland Charitable Aid Board to applicants for 1 outdoor relief. The major portion of the mutton was acquired in Hawke’s Bay and held in cold store. It is understood that the Auckland Board will receive upwards of 6000 carcasses for distribution. This will be received in parcels of about 500 careaseses, as required. Mr W. Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Board, stated that the offer of the Government was considered by the Relief Committee of the board and arrangements had been made for the issue of the additional ration. The amount to be given to applicants for relief would vary according ' to the size of the family, but in the case of a family of live it would be about 7 lbs a week.
