LURE OF PENNY POKER

COINS FROM SLOT MACHINES. YOUTHS IN COURT. AUCKLAND, Thursday. Penny poker, played in a bakehouse with coins taken from stamp machines and telephone slot machines which they had raided, was one of the pastimes indulged in by three young men, who appeared at the Police Court this morning and admit ted a series of charges. They were Albert James Clark (19), farmhand, Frederick Joseph Naden '(22), a baker, and Leonard James Montrose Stanaway (18), carter. A fourth youth was arrested, but, as ho is a juvenile, he will be dealt with at the Children’s Court. The three accused appeared on numerous charges of damaging slot machines and stealing the contents. Three additional charges of theft of throe rugs, valued at £1 each, were preferred against Naden. The Magistrate icmauded the throe young men until .Saturday morning for sentence, adding that ho would get the probation officer to make inquiries and report to them. In the meantime they would remain in custody.
