CANADA’S GOVERNOR-GENERAL
RECEPTION PAGEANTRY,
(Received 9 a.m.) OTTAWA, April 7.
The citizens of Ottawa today re? ceivcd the new Governor-General of Canada, the Earl of Bessborough, and the Countess with picturesque ceremonies touched with details of ancient and royal splendour. The military guards of honour made a striking background at the decorated railway sta tion, where foreign and domestic dignitaries greeted the vice-regal party. Thousands of people crowded the streets and warmly cheered . the new Governor-General.
The Mayor, Mr Allen, delivered a speech of welcome, in the course of which ho complimented the Earl of Bossborough on his family traditions. Addressing the Countess, he said the citizens of Ottawa already were charmed and captivated by her gracious reputation, which had preceded Her Excellency.
Viscount Duncannon, Lord Bessborough’s eldest son, after the reception, took the wheel of one of the official motor ears and drove off into the neighbouring country for a tour of inspection.
