EGYPTIAN ELECTIONS

FIRST ROUND TO SIDKY.

NAHAS NONPLUSSED. (Received 11.30 a.m.) CAIRO, April 7. Sidky Pasha appears to have won the first round in the battle of tactics to prevent the Wafdists and Liberals from illegally using the town of Beuisuef as the starting point for the election campaign. Nahas Pasha, with his campaign cohorts, arrived at Beuisuef, but found the station picketed by troops and police. Demonstrators were not allowed to leave the platform, where there was no provision for food and drink. They were idle all day and began to feel cold at dusk. They w'ere still without comforts at 10.30 p.m., when a special train drew in. They were invited to embark for Cairo. Nahas asked what would happen if they refused, and the commander intimated that he would use force. The disgruntled demonstrators entrained and the farce ended very tamely.
