THREATS TO KILL
MIDDLE-AGED MAN CHARGED. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. Alexander Lawson McLeod, a clerk, aged 58, arrested ai Newriuirket on Monday, by Detective-Sergeant Backerdike, appeared at the Police Court yesterday, charged that on December 1 last he sent to Alma Grey a letter containing threats to MU her son, Detective-Sergeant Kelly asked that accused be remanded to April 13. Mr W. Noble, appearing for accused, asked that Mr McLeod bo released on bail. “He is a decent sort of a man. I think it’s only a joke. Why, it’s preposterous,” added counsel. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said McLeod had only been in Auckland for 12 months, “I think he had been to the pictures and had seen ‘Dr. Fu Man dm,’ and then went home and wrote the letter to his sister-in-law,” said Mr Noble. Mr Cut-ton, S.M., fixed bail at £IOO.
