AUCKLAND-WHANGAREI ROAD

CANCELLATION OP GRANT.

WHAT IS THE REASON?

When the Hon. A. J. Murdoch addressed the ’ Whangarei Chamber of Commoft’ico recently, ho started that preference would be given to the expenditure of '£oooo' on the Te Araj-tAi-bertland , section, of the AucklandWhangarei main highway rather than on the Topun i-Ka iwaka deviation. The Main Highways Board also gave an undertaking that the money would be spent, on the permanent route.

The mat tor was raised at .the Chamber- .of Commerce meeting last night, when Mr J, Richardson said he had information, that for some reason /the work had been cancelled. The motel Mug of the Te Arai-Albert-land section represented the only chance of an. all-weatheir route to Auckland being put through before next winter.

Afjter a short discussion it was decided that the president and Mr Rich erdeon wait upon the chairman of No. 1 District Highways Council to ascertain the .position, and if necessary make representations to Mr Murdoch.
