FOREIGN TROUSERS
PRESENT TO MR. FORBES,
SIR T. WILFORD’S ARGUMENT.
(Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 3
Sir Thomas Wilford lias sent. Mr Forbes a pair of smart striped trousers, not implying any reflection on Air Forbes’s appearance, but pointing out the seriousness of Britain’s froctrado position. “I bought these trousers in Leeds for 271 pence,” said Mr Wilford. “They are of good quality, made iu Italy, brought carriage paid to Leeds, and sold in large quantities at prices 100 per cent, below the lowest Britishers are able to reach. The point I wish to make is that even if the suggested imposition of 10 to 15 per cent, ad valorem duty on foreign goods will not be of advantage to the Brit- | ish. The trousers will then sell at 30*
pence.”
