Public Works Estimates are as follows:'— Tim amount required for departmental salaries etc., is set down at £165,000. Railways construction, including Okaihau to Rangiahna, £05,000,' DargaviJJe branch, £120,009; Gisborne-Wai-kokopu, £350,000 j Napier-Wairoa., £240,000; Stratford-Main Trunk, £350,000, and South Island Main Trunk, £175,000,
will absorb £1,570,000, The sum of £609,095 is set down for additions to open lin?s, etc., including £587,000 for rolling stock. 1 The Public Building Vote will absorb £399,720 and of this amount £SOO is for additions to the Courthouse uf Dargaville, £420 for flu* Courthouse at Maungaturoto, £IBOO for a police station a Kaco, and £.11,400 for additions to the Post Office, Whangarei. The to&al amount proposed to be spent under all heads is £6,431,815. In addition to this amount the Alain Highways Revenue Fund Vote is £1,228,000, Alain Highways Construction Fund, £930,000, Railways Improvement, £1,263,905, Education Loans £500,000, Hanrahl Plains Settlement, £47,309, Ranglraiki Land Drainage Account £2,150, and Swamp Laud Drainage Account £54,100, making a grand total of £9,457,439.
Included in a, vote of £17,000 for harbour works, is £4OO for the Alangomu foreshore approaches, £SOO for tho Tutukaka wharf and £SOO for Whakapirau. It is proposed to spend £Bst) for additions, etc., at the Helensville Springs. The total amount required for The Immigration Department is £50,000. A sum of £IOO,OOO is set down for roads giving access to outlying districts. Construction of telegraph and toll systems is to absorb £129,393, and tlio con struct ion of telephone, lines and exchanges £430,607. These amounts are
less £OO,OOO, making- the net amount £500,000. The defence vote of £15,000 includes a. sum of £14,500 for aerodromes. Under the heading of Lands Improve* moot there appears £6,000 for Kaitaia drainage, £450; busk-felling at Opuawhanga, £450; access roads, Opuawhanga, £172; reading arid drainage, Otaika. Block, £500; sand dunes, Kaitaia, £100; sand dunes, Waipu, £300; scrub and bush cutting and draining Tangowahine, £600; drainage, Te Kopnru, £6OO.
Irrigation, water ‘supply and drainage is to absorb £75,500. The sum of £30,000 is required for plant, material and stores. Hydro-electricity works will be re* sponsible for the expenditure of £1,164,000. Of this amount £135,730 is required for KbTahora-Arapuuij £155,124 for Mangahao-W-aikareraoanft, £86,306 for Lake Coleridge, and £562,000 for the Waitaki River Scheme.
The net vote required under the Railways Improvement Authorisation Act is £1,263,000. The new station building at Auckland will require £242,823; Westfield Deviation, £15,800; rearrangements at Wellington, £130,000; WoUingtou-’Tawa Flat Deviation, £320,000; locomotive workshops, £131,561; Maintenance o? locomotive shops, £82,809; bridge sTrcngthoning, £125,500, and telegraphs and telephones, £llO,030.
A sum of £20,150 is required for swamp drainage at Hikurangi and £14,670 for similar work at Kaitaia.
