SHEEP DOG TRIALS
OTAMATEA CLUB. j ELEVENTH ANNUAL TESTS. j The eleventh annual trials, under the auspices of the Otamatea Sheep Dog Trials Chib, were held on Mrs Mountain’s property, Mnnngatnroto, on May 2 and 3. The weather was delightful on both days and the attendance of the public very good. The ladies, as usual, assisted the club in providing the luncheons and afternoon teas and in tluis way extended hospitality to all the club’s patrons. The officials carried out their duties in a manner which left nothing to be desired. The president, Mr D, Fergus, was the right man in the right place, and the secretary, Mr D. A. Finlaysoii canned out his duties in an efficient and pleasant manner. One hundred and eight entries were received altogether and of this number only 14 were scratched. The working of the dogs on the whole was satisfactory. Mr F. Voyco acted as judge.

More perfect weather conditions could hardly be imagined than those which prevailed for the opening today of the North Auckland District Championship Sheep Dog Trials, at Mr D. J. Finlayson’s paddock, Kamo, For a first day the public attendance was particularly good, the delightful weather no doubt acting as a stimulus to attract people to participate in the pleasant sport and enjoy the ideal surroundings with which Nature has endowed the trial ground. The ladies’ committee added their no small quota to the enjoyment of patrons by providing delicious luncheon and afternoon teas. The sheep were in very good condition am! the working of the dogs in general well up to standard. A start was made with the Long Head event this morning and at. lunch time 17 dogs had completed their runs. The officials carried out their duties in a business-like manner and there were no, unneessary delays. The trials will be continued tomorrow when it is expected that the, attendance of the public will be a record. The club’s annual dance will beheld in the Kamo Hall this evening.
