PARNELL ELECTION

FINAL SHOTS FIRED POLLING TODAY, KEEN INTEREST AND HEAVY VOTING. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. The United candidate for Parnell, Mr W. A. Donald addressed a meeting at Remuera last evening. Associated with the candidate on the platform were three Cabinet Ministers, the Hons. E. A. Ransom, A. ,T. Stallworthy and J, B. Donald, also Mr G. C. Munns, M.P. The candidate and Mr Ransom, followed him, were given sympathetic hearings punctuated with applause. Current political issues occupied the greater part of Mr Donald’s remarks. He said a great deal had been made of Mr H. R. Jenkins’ turnover to Reform.

Voices: “He is a politial twister. They are welcome to him,’’ “What this country wants today is young men of vision, and we have one before us,” said Mr Ransom. The Reform Party’s Anal by-elec-tion campaign meeting held at Bemuera was a successful party rally. The Bt. Hon. J, G. Coates and the Reform candidate, Mr W. P. Endean, were supported by no fewer than six other speakers—the ex-member for Parnell, Mr H. E, and Messrs A. Harris, C. E. Macmillan, A. M. Samuel, A. W. Hall and the Hon. E. A. Wright, M’s.P., while the Hon. J. A. Young, M.P., spoke at Kohimarama. “The campaign throughout has been one of the happiest and most interesting in which I have engaged, ’ ’ said Mr T. Bloodworth, the Labour candidate for Parnell, in addressing a meeting at Remuera last evening, “I think the other candidates will agree with me that there have been no incidents to which exeeptiou could be taken, and I am sure that whatever the result, there will be no personal regrets. ’ ’ Addresses were also given by Mr H. E. Holland, Leader of the Labour Party, and Mr D. G. Sullivan, Labour member for Avon,

The result of the voting at the general election in' November 1928 was as follows: H. E. Jenkins (United), 5642; J. S. Dickson (Reform), 4793; J. W. Yarnall (Labour), 1661, Majority for Jenkins, 849. There are 14,019 names on today’s roll. The weather is glorious, and keen interest with a big poll is anticipated.
